Latest US elections: Harris makes surprise stop in Washington as Trump announces election night plans | US News

Is the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement moving forward or dying with Donald Trump?

That’s the question we here at Sky News put to Anthony Scaramucci, Trump’s former White House communications director.

In an interview hosted by Saxo, Mr. Scaramucci discussed the possibility of another Republican like J.D. Vance picking up where Mr. Trump left off if he loses this election.

“I don’t think Vance can pick up the torch,” he said.

“He’s an outspoken guy, but I think he’s very close to Donald Trump at this point, and I think he’s getting caught up in the heat, so if Trump goes off, he’s going to be gutted.

He added that if Mr. Trump wins, Mr. Vance will be “destroyed” just like Mike Pence was after the 2020 election.

“Vance is too close to Donald Trump; he’s done. He’ll never get out of this.”

So what happens to the party if Mr. Vance can’t “carry the torch”?

“The Mitt Romney and John McCain era of the party is over,” Scaramucci said.

“You now have a party where MAGA and far-right cultural issues merge with normal Republican party principles.”

So who gets it?

“If you poll these people, they like Tucker Carlson the best, they see him as the leader of the party.

“I don’t think Vance could be the leader of the party, and I don’t think the Republican party under Trump could be a MAGA movement and Trumpism wouldn’t survive.

“It’s a cult of personality. So I don’t know what’s going to happen next, but it’s not going to happen.”
