Man burglarizes Sheriff Gregory Tony’s vehicle, stealing firearm magazines among other items

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Local 10 News A man was arrested after robbing a Broward Sheriff’s Office vehicle assigned to Sheriff Gregory Tony, according to a statement released to Local 10 News on Tuesday.

Andre Demetric Perry, 42, broke into the sheriff’s vehicle while it was parked in Fort Lauderdale around 2:40 a.m. Sunday, according to BSO spokeswoman Carey Codd.

“Several items were stolen, including firearm magazines, a handcuff key, and personal items,” Codd wrote in an email to Local 10. “No firearms were stolen.”

A “BOLO” warrant was issued for the suspect, and Fort Lauderdale police located and arrested Perry later in the day on unrelated charges, Codd said.

Perry was later linked to vehicle theft and is now facing charges of burglary of an unoccupied vehicle and grand larceny.

“Following Perry’s arrest for vehicle theft, several items were seized, including his handcuff key,” Codd wrote.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Perry remained held at the Broward Main Jail.

He appeared in court Monday morning and it was revealed that Andre Perry was an alias and Perry’s legal name was Anthony Perry.

The judge ordered that he be fitted with a GPS monitor if he posted bond and stayed away from the residential area where the break-in occurred.

In court, it was learned that Perry was on parole at the time of the burglary and had a lengthy criminal record for burglary, cocaine possession, domestic battery by strangulation, battery on a law enforcement officer and grand larceny.

A public defender who appeared in court told the judge that Perry was not working and was currently homeless.
