A woman has been charged with multiple crimes, including attempted murder, following an incident Wednesday night near a utility facility on Hatteras Island.

Susan Elizabeth Myers, 65, was driving near Gingerbread Bakery and Pizza when she allegedly struck an employee of a contractor replacing electrical transmission poles in Frisco, according to Dare County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Donnie Varnell.

Witnesses stayed with Myers until authorities arrived. Dare County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene in the 52700 block of NC Highway 12 in Frisco around 8:20 p.m.

One person was transported to Outer Banks Hospital for injuries and later released, according to Investigator Varnell.

Myers, whose arrest report lists a Maryland address but resides in Frisco, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or cause serious injury, and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.

He is being held in the Dare County Detention Center in lieu of $75,000 bail.

This is a developing story and Island Free Press will publish more details as they emerge.
