2 await sentencing after confessing crimes in 2021 murder case

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A man and a woman will be formally sentenced next month for their roles in the shooting death of a man three years ago.

Kevin L. Thompson, 32, and Dakaisha M. West, 35, pleaded guilty to the Aug. 14, 2021, shooting death of Kyle Michael Elzy, 27, at the Triple Crown Car Wash in the 9900 block of LaGrange Road.

Thompson admitted to shooting Elzy multiple times and taking Elzy’s personal belongings before fleeing in a car driven by West. In his plea, West admitted to driving the car and helping Thompson not only leave the scene of the crime but also flee the state.

The car used in the murder was later found abandoned in central Alabama.

The State Attorney’s Office recommended that Thompson be sentenced to 36 years in prison for murder and 20 years in prison for robbery. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning Thompson will be sentenced to a total of 36 years in prison.

West pleaded guilty to criminal facilitation of murder, criminal facilitation of robbery and tampering with physical evidence. Prosecutors recommended that he receive a five-year sentence on each of those charges. Since the sentences will run concurrently, Thompson will be sentenced to a total of five years in prison.

Thompson and West’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 2.
