A lawsuit was filed against the man who tried to kill his ex-wife in Surprise

PHOENIX — A man has been charged with allegedly trying to kill his ex-wife in Surprise, the Maricopa County District Attorney’s Office said.

MCAO said 26-year-old Garrett Headrick was indicted by a grand jury on Oct. 25 for attempted second-degree murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.

According to authorities, police received a call around 7:30 a.m. from a neighbor who saw a man dragging a woman by her hair into a nearby house.

Headrick allegedly He repeatedly slapped his ex-wife, strangled her, and tried to stab her in front of their children.

Surprised officers said they knocked on the front door and heard a woman inside the house screaming for help. Officers forced their way into the home and found Headrick sitting on top of his ex-wife, assaulting her.

He suffered multiple injuries, including cuts and bruises, from the attack and was hospitalized and is currently in stable condition.

Authorities said Headrick was visiting from California and was waiting outside his home before the attack.

The grand jury indicted Headrick on the following charges:

  • One count of attempted second-degree murder, a class two dangerous misdemeanor.
  • Four counts of kidnapping, a class 2 felony.
  • Three counts of aggravated assault, a class three dangerous misdemeanor.
  • One count of disorderly conduct, a first-class misdemeanor.

Headrick remains in jail on $500,000 cash bond.
