2 arrested for selling meth in Houghton County

CALUMET, Mich. (WLUC) – Two Houghton County men have been jailed following a lengthy meth distribution investigation, the Drug Enforcement Team announced Friday morning.

UPSET said its detectives have been investigating a 40-year-old man from Calumet for the distribution of methamphetamine in the Houghton County area for the past several months.

On Saturday, UPSET detectives coordinated with the Michigan State Police (MSP) Traffic Safety Team and the Sault Tribal Police Department to conduct a traffic stop on a suspect believed to be transporting drugs through Mackinac County.

A 40-year-old suspect from Calumet and a 39-year-old woman from Atlantic Mine were identified in the vehicle and a probable cause investigation was conducted on the vehicle, where officers seized drug paraphernalia, over $2,000 in cash and approximately 1 pound. crystal methamphetamine.

Both suspects were taken to the Mackinac County Jail.

On Monday, UPSET detectives, troopers from MSP Calumet Post and deputies with the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home in Houghton County. Additional evidence of the distribution of meth, firearms and $1,500 in cash was also seized.

The names of the suspects are currently being kept secret and the investigation is ongoing.

UPSET detectives were assisted by Sault Tribal Police, MSP Traffic Safety Team, MSP Calumet Station and the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office.
