Police say Hyannis girl’s stabbing at Dollar Tree was random

31-year-old Hyannis man faces charges in Thursday’s stabbing at a hotel Dollar Tree By store in Hyannis Barnstable Police Department.

Police allege the man stabbed a young woman he didn’t know.

The man faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

Police said the incident happened at 12:38 a.m. at the store at 1070 Route 132. When police arrived at the scene, the young man had stab wounds that did not appear to be life-threatening. Rescuers took him to the hospital.

Police said the teenager was stabbed in the lower back with a knife.

The man facing the charge is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Barnstable District Court.
