Ventnor man sentenced to prison for stabbing at Absecon park in 2021

MAYS LANDING, NJ — A Ventnor resident has been sentenced to three years in the New Jersey State Prison following a 2021 stabbing at a park in Absecon, authorities announced.

William Clanton, 24, was sentenced on Nov. 7, 2024, for third-degree aggravated assault. The charges stem from a violent encounter that occurred on January 1, 2021, at Field of Dreams Park in Absecon. Police arrived at the scene and found that the victim had multiple stab wounds to his head, throat, arm and abdomen.

According to the Absecon Police Department, officers provided emergency medical assistance at the scene and the victim was later transported to the hospital, where he survived injuries. Clanton was caught in the park with two knives and later admitted stabbing the victim during an argument.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Absecon Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit. Clanton’s three-year prison sentence reflects the seriousness of the attack and local law enforcement’s ongoing commitment to combating violent crime in the community.
