With Trump in Office, EU Considers Replacing Russian LNG with US Supply Amid Tariff Threats | N18G

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has suggested that the EU may increase imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States to deter President-elect Donald Trump from imposing tariffs. During his campaign, Trump promised to bring jobs back to America by imposing tariffs of up to 20% on imports, prompting Brussels to prepare a strong response. Speaking at the EU summit, Von der Leyen suggested replacing Russian LNG with American supplies to ease tensions. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Trump’s ally, expects tough negotiations but hopes for a beneficial deal. Trump warned the EU it would “pay a big price” for inadequate US purchases.
