Police said officers were called around 2:25 a.m. after several suspects forced their way through the front door of a home on Bellwood Avenue.

According to police, the suspects confronted a male resident in his bedroom and demanded cash. The victim was shot in the head, face and upper body.

The suspects then stole a Mercedes sedan from the driveway and fled, police said.

The injured, whose life was not in danger, was taken to the hospital.

On Thursday afternoon, police said two suspects were arrested in Toronto and officers recovered the stolen vehicle.

Jayden Batiste, 18, of Vaughan, and Dyante Johnson, 18, of Brampton, were charged with aggravated assault, robbery, breaking and entering, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, escape from lawful custody, theft of a motor vehicle, disguise. Intentional, fraudulent use of a credit card and failure to comply with an eviction order.

“Breaking into a house at 2am, violently assaulting a sleeping resident in his bed, all with the intention of stealing his car. It’s incomprehensible,” Supt. Dave Costantini said.

“The two criminals were arrested while occupying the victim’s stolen car and face charges for previous offences,” he added. “Illogical. “Our police officers will continue to relentlessly pursue anyone who threatens the life and property safety of our citizens.”
