Yogi asks at election rally why there is no quota for SCs/STs and OBCs in AMU | Latest News India

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday questioned why Aligarh Muslim University is not giving reservation to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) but is trying to give 50% reservation to Muslims on its own despite the institution receiving funds from the government.

He demanded reservation in jobs in AMU and admission to SC/STs and OBCs. However, this did not happen because the Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) never thought about it and were only interested in their own vote bank, he said.

Adityanath was addressing a public meeting in Aligarh on Saturday, where bypolls will be held for the Khair (SC) assembly seat on November 20.

Adityanath’s observations on AMU came a day after the Supreme Court by a 4-3 majority overturned the 1967 verdict, which was the basis for denying minority status to Aligarh Muslim University.

“There was a debate going on in the Supreme Court over whether Aligarh Muslim University should have minority status or should it be a regular university like other public universities. “How is it that an institution working with the resources of the Indian government and taxpayers’ money is not giving reservations to Schedule Castes, Schedule Tribes and OBCs, but is trying to give 50 per cent reservation to Muslims on its own?” he said.

He said that the Constitution of India and the Mandal Commission provided reservation to SCs/STs and OBCs.

“Congress forgot the contributions of freedom fighter Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh but we established a government university in his name in Aligarh. “We need to elect leaders to get such institutes and universities,” he said.

Adityanath warned that those interested in dragging Kashmir into religious division and terrorism have become active once again.

He said that recently a resolution was passed in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly calling for restoration of Article 370 after the National Conference and Congress came to power.

“Dr BR Ambedkar never wanted Article 370 to come into force, but Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru was adamant that it should happen in Kashmir. Congress never tried to revoke Article 370, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the doors to progress by revoking Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, which has seen progress in the last five years,” Adityanath said.

“It is in the history of the Congress that it has succeeded when it managed to divide the citizens,” he added.

‘Desh ka itihas batata hai jo bate the woh kate the’ (The history of the country shows that those who were divided were all massacred) he said.

‘We all know what happened in Mathura, Varanasi and Ayodhya, what happened to our daughters and mothers. We should not keep our eyes closed like the Mahabharata character Gandhari did. “But if we choose to continue being divided, then our only fate will be to be cut off,” he said.

“Be alert to those who divide us and do not rely on their words to survive. “Ek rahoge toh safe rahoge,” Adityanath said.

“UP has changed a lot. Before 2017, there were riots and curfews every ten days, but the situation is not the same now. “No one dares to rebel anymore, otherwise he will find Yamraj (god of death) waiting for him at the next pass,” he warned.

The Prime Minister emphasized that “those who tried to deceive the masses with schemes by coining words like “khatakhat khatakhat” during the Lok Sabha elections must now face “safachat” (fiasco) in this by-election.”
