Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers Silences Doubters in Win Against Florida Gators

AUSTIN– Quinn Pitcher He has been far from his best in recent weeks and many people Texas Longhorns As a result, fans suddenly turned on him. While some of the criticism has merit, these narrow-minded fans seem to have quickly forgotten what Ewers has done to help bring the show back into relevance over the past two seasons.

He put away any doubts and hopefully temporarily silenced the know-it-alls on social media with a dominant performance in Saturday’s 49-17 victory over the Florida Gators in Austin.

Against a Florida defense that had intercepted Georgia quarterback Carson Beck three times the previous week, Ewers completed 19 of 27 passes for 333 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. Arch Manning replaced him as Texas took a 42-3 lead with 7:03 left in the third quarter.

“Obviously it does a lot in terms of confidence,” Ewers said. “When we go out there and execute what we do as a unit, who wouldn’t feel confident after our performance on offense?”

Ewers ended his streak of four straight games with an interception that ended with an oblique injury against UTSA on Sept. 14 that sidelined him for two games.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian praised Ewers for entering the game with “a real sense of confidence.”

“I thought Quinn played great today, and I thought he played great against Vanderbilt two weeks ago. He was a little unlucky on some tip-ins, but he hit the mark again today. Unfortunately, we gave up a few points. He really mastered the offense when he was throwing the ball. Our rhythm, our tempo, “I felt like the goal we were playing the game was the ball was going towards the goal, the guys were catchable on time, so I think he came into this game with a real sense of confidence.”

Ewers was one goal away from breaking the school record before going to the bench. Instead of allowing him to receive this award, Sarkisian made a different choice to avoid upsetting the football gods.

“I don’t tend to worry about those things,” Sarkisian said. “I think records are meant to be broken when they’re about to be broken. I don’t think you should try to break records. I think the football gods will catch you then. I try to stay on the good side of records, too, those guys.”

Texas will visit the Arkansas Razorbacks next week.
