Kaja Kallas vying to be EU’s next foreign policy chief – live updates – POLITICO

Had it not been for Russia’s all-out attack on Ukraine, Kaja Kallas might not have emerged as one of the most important voices in Europe’s foreign affairs. As Estonian prime minister, Kallas pushed the EU to supply Ukraine with ammunition and freeze Russian assets, sounding alarm bells about Russian aggression, even as some Western leaders wringed their hands at the risk of provoking the Kremlin.

This track record is both one of Kallas’ greatest assets and his greatest weakness facing questions from members of the European Parliament. As the EU’s candidate for foreign policy chief (formally the high representative for foreign affairs and security policy), he will have to ease fears that he is a Russia hawk at the expense of other international priorities.

While he will generally be expected to do well, he will also have the opportunity to do what the job sometimes requires: answer uncomfortable questions.

We will bring you all the live action starting on November 11 at 09:00 CET. Watch live broadcast Here.
