Ribbons of Hope tell Southeast: “There’s help if you need it – SteinbachOnline.com

November is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Although most people prefer not to talk about DV, it is a common problem for many people in the Southeast. At Agape House, they see this impact firsthand.

“If you look back last year’s speechWe were talking about our numbers reaching the highest levels we’ve seen in over 10 years. However, this year we are already 70% higher than last year’s figures. “Last year’s figures were the highest we have had in over a decade, so the need is growing significantly.”

This is from Lisa Fast, Outreach Coordinator at Agape House, a safe place for victims of domestic violence.

Agape House is launching its Ribbons of Hope campaign this month. He explains quickly.

“In Steinbach and the Southeast, you will see local participating businesses displaying purple ribbon badges next to our donation boxes. So donate what you can and get a pin with a purple ribbon to wear. And by wearing a badge with a purple ribbon, you show everyone that you stand against domestic violence; You show that you believe everyone has the right to be safe.”

Fast says Ribbons of Hope also lets everyone in the community know there is help here if you need it.

“These ribbons also help spread awareness so we can eliminate domestic violence in society.”

When a person comes to Agape House in need of support, the situation may look different for everyone. Fast notes that Agape House helps with physical shelter, but it is so much more.

“Sometimes people just need someone to talk to and not necessarily come for shelter. So they call our 24-hour crisis line. We also offer counseling and support groups, as well as help with medical, legal, social services, finding housing and submitting housing applications.”

Agape House also provides basic needs such as food, clothing, hygiene, information and referrals; Most of these have recently addressed housing assistance for victims of gender-based violence in Manitoba, Canada, which Fast says is fairly new.

“This is a benefit that promotes independence and really improves outcomes for people who are leaving a violent situation and need help paying their rent or mortgage so they can establish themselves as independent. “We have been making many of these referrals lately.”

As if this were not enough, educational services are also provided at Agape House. Fast says he hosts many workshops and community presentations.

“We’re really doing everything we can to help the community.”

Ribbons of Hope raise awareness as well as funds for Agape House. Fast explains that donations will go to support Agape House services.

“Our services include counseling and support groups, shelter essentials and the ability to provide hygiene products and food – especially as the cost of living has increased and we are now able to offer our services to many more people – which is why donations from our Ribbon of Hope campaign are so important. We provide all these services directly They will help us support it.”

Fast says it makes him happy when he sees people outside wearing the Ribbon of Hope.

“I just want to thank you for supporting us and taking a stand against domestic violence. Because this is a very sensitive topic that many people will talk about and even think about. “So when you take a stand against this, I think it’s a very brave move, and I sincerely thank everyone who wears the Ribbon of Hope.”
