“Originally from Minnesota, Beau felt a strong call to serve as a missionary and dedicated his life to sharing hope and faith in communities far from home. Beau, who left his career as a police officer and real estate agent behind; Roering stated that he and his wife, Jackie, took a brave leap of faith and traveled to Africa to build a future of service and compassion for others.

The late missionary remembered the journey as one “full of love, humility and kindness.”

“He was an inspiration to everyone he met and a pillar of strength and love to his family. His tragic death left a deep void in the lives of everyone who knew him, and the pain felt by his loved ones and the community is immeasurable,” Roering added.

Beau Shroyer and his wife were beloved members of the community. Lake District Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, before moving to Lubango, Angola in 2021 to do missionary work under the auspices of SIM USA, a long-time global missionary organization focused on doing missionary work in places where sharing the Gospel is difficult. The missionary organization expressed surprise at the charges against 44-year-old Jackie Shroyer but said they were taking steps to ensure she had appropriate legal representation.

“The global SIM community is heartbroken by the death of our friend and colleague Beau Shroyer, who was killed in a violent criminal attack in Angola on Friday, October 25th. We were shocked and devastated to learn that his wife, Jackie Shroyer, had been murdered. “He was arrested in connection with his death.” he said in a statement.

“SIM is grateful to Angolan law enforcement for their diligence in investigating this matter and encourages the patience and respect of all involved as the legal process progresses. SIM is committed to supporting the ongoing pursuit of justice for Beau and has taken steps to ensure Jackie has appropriate legal representation.”

Angolan Criminal Investigative Service spokesman Manuel Halaiwa said Jackie Shroyer was the mastermind behind the murder-for-hire plot that also involved three other men in whom her husband was killed. Investigators also allege that Jackie Shroyer was romantically involved with Bernardino Elias, 24, one of the men who worked as his family’s security guard. The other two men were identified as 23-year-old Isalino Kayoo and 22-year-old Gelson Ramos.

“Here there are strong suspicions of a possibly romantic relationship between the person who ordered the case and his accomplice, a citizen who initially worked as a guard for a private security company, but was welcomed after his contract with this company ended.” Because he seemed like a good person, very close to the couple, and he was hired at a different salary to serve the couple,” Halaiwa said.

While the legal process continues, Roering appealed for support for Beau Shroyer’s children and extended family as they grapple with the loss and prepare for his funeral, which is expected to be held on November 30.

“Their children, who are currently enduring unimaginable loss and uncertainty, are being cared for by a family who will work tirelessly to support them through this incredibly challenging time, ensuring they are safe, loved and surrounded by people who care deeply for them.” he said.

“His family began the process of returning his body to the United States by planning his funeral, seeking reliable sources of information during the investigation and legal proceedings surrounding his death, and providing ongoing support to his children.”
