Houston woman accused of defrauding Florida-based domestic violence nonprofit

A 24-year-old woman from Houston, Texas, was accused of stealing more than $22,000 from a Florida-based nonprofit organization that provides assistance to women affected by domestic violence.

The Stuart Police Department (SPD) stated that the case against Teriane Jackson began in October 2023, when the organization noticed that one of the emails she sent to one of its vendors had been hacked.

The hacker allegedly impersonated the nonprofit’s CEO and asked the finance director to transfer $22,800 to a bank account in Jackson’s name on October 24, 2023.

SPD stated that they learned that Jackson opened a bank account in Houston in September 2023, just one month before stealing from the organization.

After the money was transferred to Jackson’s account, he reportedly made numerous cash withdrawals and money order purchases.

Jackson was arrested in North Carolina on October 4 after a warrant was issued and extradited to Florida.

Jackson is charged with grand larceny.
