Mariam Jaafar on the Child Development Shared Savings (Amendment) Bill

MP Mariam Jaafar said realizing the vision of a society where healthy, equal parenting is the norm will require a systematic change in the workplace and social attitudes. He made three suggestions to achieve this. The first is to provide greater protection against discrimination for those taking any form of parental leave, possibly in upcoming workplace fairness legislation. Second, promoting a workplace culture that supports families and gives women more opportunities. Third, monitor and publish metrics to measure progress. These will include rates of use of various types of parental leave, changes in attitudes, impact on workforce outcomes and birth rates. Ms Mariam spoke in Parliament on Wednesday 13 November.
