GCC concludes discussion on review of iTaukei Management and economic empowerment document

As the Grand Chiefs Council meeting continued at the Grand Pacific Hotel, delegates concluded their discussions on the iTaukei Administration or Fijian Administration review and economic empowerment document.

President of the Grand Council of Chiefs, Ratu Viliame Seruvakula, this morning with Dr. He said that the meeting in which Jale Baleidrokadroka led the committee team conducting the investigation on iTaukei Management went well.

Himself, Dr. He said that Baleidrokadroka and his team briefed the Chiefs on what they encountered during the review and also made a number of recommendations.

Ratu Viliame also said that they held a minute of silence for two of their deceased members.

The Chairman adds that one of their members is from Rotuma and the other is Turaga na Tui Yawe from Kadavu.

Ratu Viliame said that this afternoon members will form confederation groups and discuss the two papers discussed this morning and meet again to present their findings.

He said from there they will look at the proposals and see what they can agree on and pass them on to the government or relevant ministries.

As previously emphasized by the President of the Gulf Cooperation Council, other issues to be discussed at the meeting include drugs, violence against women and girls, the erosion of the iTaukei language and the proper use of natural resources.
