Christmas is fast approaching and many people still need gift ideas for their friends and family. There are unique gifts reflecting the city that will make gift recipients smile in Marietta.

Marietta is known for its rivers and more specifically its riverboats/sternwheelers. One way to enjoy them is on a riverboat cruise.

The Valley Gem sternwheeler offers several different types of trips.

According to the boat’s website, Valley Gem’s Winter Wonderland cruise costs $49 for adults ages 13-54, $47 for ages 55 and older, $39 for children ages 3-12 and free for children ages 2 and under.

The ship operates between 6-8pm. December 27, according to the website.

“Bring your family and friends and transfer to Winter Wonderland” the website said. “We will be serving a delicious winter wonderland-inspired dinner buffet while cruising the Ohio River.”

There is also a Holiday Luau tour at Valley Gem. According to the website, tickets are $46 for adults 13-54, $44 for adults 55 and over, $36 for children 3-12 and free for children 2 and under.

According to the website, the cruise will take place on December 28th from 1pm to 3pm.

“Do you have the post-Christmas blues?” the website said. “How about you put on your best Hawaiian shirt and come to Valley Gem for a Vacation Luau? “We will be offering a luau-themed lunch buffet with live music and lots of holiday fun!”

Various events are also held on the Major/River, a passenger barge/tug combination.

For those who like their gifts to be versatile, there are Marietta Bucks. This is the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce’s gift certificate program, according to the chamber’s website.

Marietta Bucks was originally started as a way to encourage local residents to shop at local businesses and has expanded over the years, the website said.

Participating vendors include Mahone Tire Service, Threadz Boutique, Workman’s Store, Walmart, Bridgeport Equipment and Tool, Oopsa Daisy Florist & Gifts, Austyn’s, The Galley, Jeremiah’s Coffee House, Marietta Brewing Company, Tampico Mexican Restaurant, Town House, Copper Leaf Interior Design It is located. Studio, Marietta Adventure Company, We Love Pets, Baker & Baker Jewelers, Dads Primitive Workbench, Marietta Makery, Schafer Leather Shop, Lafayette Hotel and more.

According to the website, Marietta Bucks can be purchased year-round in denominations of $5, $10, $20, $25 and $50 using cash, credit card or check and expire after two years.

There is a 2.5% fee to cover administrative costs when purchasing coins, so for example, $10 at Marietta Bucks is $10.25. Gift envelopes are provided at no extra cost, and each buyer also receives a brochure listing participating vendors, the website said.
