13 foreigners caught for working illegally at popular JB nasi lemak spot

JOHOR BARU: A total of 13 Indonesians were detained for working illegally at a popular nasi lemak restaurant in Taman Setia Tropika.

Johor Immigration Director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the foreigners were detained during the raid at around 1.20pm on Wednesday (Nov 13).

“The raid was based on public complaints about foreigners working in the restaurant without proper permits and documentation, which recently went viral on TikTok.

“13 foreigners, aged between 20 and 32, were detained under the Immigration Law for crimes such as overstaying and working without a valid permit,” the statement said.

He added that the ministry also issued a notice to the restaurant to assist in investigations.

In a separate raid, Mohd Rusdi said the department detained four more illegal aliens here in Larkin.

“Among those detained was a 22-year-old Pakistani fruit vendor who was selling fruit from table to table in a restaurant.

“We also received a man and woman from Myanmar, as well as a man aged 22 to 40 from China. “They were all detained because they did not have valid documents,” he said.

All those detained were brought to the Immigration depot in Setia Tropika for investigation.

Mohd Rusdi urged the public to report cases of activities involving illegal aliens to the ministry at 07-2233 8400 or email: www.imi.spab.gov.my

“We are serious about combating illegal employment and will take legal action against employers and individuals who employ foreigners without valid identification documents and work permits,” he added.
