Virginia’s mother declares ‘victory’ after school system quietly removes ‘X-rated’ LGBTQ comic

A Virginia mother publicly spoke out against the inclusion of an “adult-themed” LGBTQ comic in the magazine. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) declares “victory” after book is quietly removed from school libraries.

In emails obtained by Fox News Digital, FCPS said: Stacy Langton, The book “Queer: A Graphic History” by Meg-John Barker, a mother of six, was removed by librarians “due to outdated terminology no longer used in the LGBTQ+ community.”

The school system told Langton the book was being removed from most schools in June 2023 after she raised concerns about the book at school board meetings. Langton only learned of the decision in correspondence with FCPS in October 2024 and was surprised that this information was not passed on to her and other parents sooner.

“It’s not appropriate for young children at all. It’s an adult-themed book. It shouldn’t be in any school library. I guess they didn’t want me to know they took it out because it was a win for me, you.” Speaking to Fox News Digital, Langton described the debate over age-appropriate books as “political football” .

FCPS Instructional Services Department Assistant Superintendent Noel Klimenko emailed Langton, stating that the school board’s remarks prompted librarians to review the book.

“As a non-fiction book on a developing subject, it is critical that the book contains up-to-date information. It is within the librarian’s responsibilities to make these decisions. I have not directed any school to remove the book,” he said.

Klimenko noted that librarians have determined that other books in their collections provide more accurate and up-to-date information about LGBTQ resources, which are “superior sources of information” on the subject.

It also revealed that the book was retired in a process known as weeding, where librarians often remove items to ensure a relevant, current and engaging collection.

I showed it to the board. And I remember thinking, their eyes were really wide as I looked at them. I think they were shocked by it.” “The nature of this material in particular was quite bad.”
