Democratic senator reacted to Gaetz’s candidacy: ‘Red alert moment’

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., warned Tuesday: President-elect Trump’s election The appointment of former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) as U.S. attorney general signaled Trump’s intention to follow through on his promises to persecute his opponents.

Murphy noted that several Republican senators have signaled their opposition to the controversial former congressman, who is under a year-long investigation stemming from accusations that he had sexual intercourse with a minor. The Justice Department ultimately did not file charges.
