MetService says heavy rain can be expected across much of New Zealand on Friday, but weather looks brighter over the weekend.

The forecaster said a low-moving southeast should pass over the South Island early Friday morning, bringing heavy rain to several areas in the North Island and the west and north of the South Island.

It was stated that the rain would be “covered” across the North Island and fans head to Coldplay at Auckland’s Eden Park “Quite heavy bursts of rain” can be expected.

“If you’re going to see Coldplay you may find it’s a wet start, but hopefully you’ll find drier weather there once the replays start.”

He was also warned to allow extra time for crowded public transport.

Heavy rain warning applies to the following regions:
