AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – A man is facing federal charges after court documents say a DPS trooper found cocaine during a traffic stop in Carson County.

The traffic stop took place on October 21. Court documents say a trooper stopped a car for speeding while on patrol on I-40 in Carson County.

Police spoke with the driver, identified as Byron Steven Pinto Zelaya, and noted some signs of criminal activity.

Court documents state that during a search of the car, police found 5.7 kilos of cocaine.

The drugs were worth around $260,000, according to Drug Enforcement Administration street value estimates.

Zelaya was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

He was indicted on the charges on November 13.
