Hamlin defeats defending champion Parkston in 9-AA championship game

VERMILLION, SD (Dakota News Now) -The Hamlin offense got the most attention, but it was the defense that was most impressive. They held the potent Parkston offense to 150 yards and the Trojans only scored on Kolter Kramer’s 97-yard kickoff return.

Jackson Wadsworth was able to suit up and was named the Joe Robbie MVP after completing 17 of 22 passes for 216 yards and a TD. Hamlin won 32-8 as Turner Stevenson also kicked two field goals. Wadsworth felt the school’s winning tradition helped.

“The basketball championship helped us. We wanted to go back to that feeling because we knew what that feeling was. And all the players here are like a brotherhood. “We play for each other and that helped us move forward and win this game.”

Both teams entered Thursday night’s game with perfect records. This was Hamlin’s first football championship since 2014.
