JOHANNESBURG – The Pretoria Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a man to three life sentences for repeatedly raping his stepdaughter.

On Thursday, the 50-year-old man, whose name cannot be disclosed to protect his daughter’s identity, appeared in court to be sentenced for three counts of rape.

According to the prosecutor, in October 2018, the victim’s mother went into labor, leaving her 11-year-old child alone with the perpetrator at their home in Olievenhoutbosch.

The man began to undress the minor, stopped her from screaming and sexually assaulted her. The cycle continued until 2020.

Delivering the verdict, Judge Fikiswa Ntlati said the man showed no remorse for his actions and continued to deny the crimes despite overwhelming evidence against him.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomed the sentence.

“After the child reported the matter to the police and the man was arrested, he pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied raping the child. However, the State was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. The NPA welcomes and approves this sentence: NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana expressed its commitment to combating gender-based violence.
