Erie police charge city man with rape after reportedly threatening woman with gun

Erie police have charged an 18-year-old city man with raping a woman he was in a relationship with after he reportedly threatened to shoot her if she didn’t have sex with him.

Jaquan Manus, 18, was in the Erie County Jail Friday on $175,000 bail following a hearing Thursday afternoon on felony charges of rape and sexual assault and misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats.

Police filed the charges Wednesday after investigators said the 18-year-old woman reported the alleged rape to them.

According to investigators, the woman said she had been in a relationship with Manus for several months and that he had been pressuring her for sex.

She said that on Oct. 26, Manus contacted her on Facebook, showed her his gun and asked her to go to his house to have sex. Investigators said Friday that the woman said Manus threatened to shoot her and blow up her house if she didn’t.

The woman said that when she got home, Manus removed the magazine from the gun and showed her that the gun was loaded, police reported. He said he didn’t want to have sex but was afraid he would be shot if he didn’t, according to investigators.

Manus is tentatively scheduled to appear in court Dec. 4 for his preliminary hearing, according to court records. Manus’ attorney was not listed in Friday’s criminal record.
