Man drove stolen car to Mar-a-Lago to see Trump

A Florida man was arrested late Thursday night after Palm Beach Police say he pulled up there. Mar-a-Lago and he wanted to talk to the president-elect Donald Trump – while driving a stolen car.

Jail records show the 52-year-old Sarasota man faces charges of vehicle theft and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. He was being held in the Palm Beach County Jail Friday morning on $20,250 bail, according to jail records.

A judge also ordered the man to have no contact with Trump, Mar-a-Lago, the protected area around Mar-a-Lago or any of Trump’s other properties, records show. The man also cannot have any weapons.

The man drove a Hyundai Kona, a small SUV, into a parking lot near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club around 9:15 p.m. Thursday and asked to speak with the president-elect, according to a Palm Beach Police arrest report. A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office detective and a U.S. Secret Service agent pulled the man over while waiting for police, the report said.

The report stated that when a Palm Beach Police officer arrived at the scene, he checked the man’s driver’s license and found that his driver’s license was suspended indefinitely. When the police officer checked the license plate of the vehicle the person was driving, he discovered that it did not belong to him.

The report stated that the gray Hyundai belonged to a rental company where a woman was said to have rented the SUV. When police contacted that woman, she told them she knew the Sarasota man and that they had met earlier in the day to purchase a vehicle. The woman told police the man stayed in the car while she went to the bank to get money.

When he returned, the SUV was no longer there, according to the police report.

The woman returned to the man’s house, thinking he would return, but he did not. Instead he apparently went to Mar-a-Lago. The woman told police that she did not let the man take her SUV, the report said.

A deputy with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office contacted a Palm Beach Police officer and advised that the SUV had been reported stolen.

Latest arrests at Mar-a-Lago

A South Carolina man who police said was one of Trump’s supporters was arrested on Aug. 13 after Palm Beach police said he went around Secret Service checkpoints to talk to Trump. That man also did not admit his guilt.
