New ash emissions recorded at Kanlaon Volcano

MANILA, Philippines — Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island remains under Alert Level 2 as it continues to exhibit volcanic activity, including ash emissions recorded from November 16-17, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In an advisory filed Sunday afternoon, Phivolcs reported that the ash emission lasted from two minutes to an hour and five minutes, producing ash clouds that rose 150 to 500 meters above the summit crater and drifted north and south.

According to Phivolcs, the volcano spewed ash from 13:42 to 14:08 on Saturday and again from 15:29 to 15:41. Another ash emission occurred between 11:01 and 12:06 on Sunday.

“The Kanlaon Volcano Network has recorded a total of 55 ash emission events since October 19, 2024,” the state seismologist said.

Phivolcs also reiterated that it is strictly prohibited to fly any aircraft near the volcano crater.
