Brazilian fugitive convicted of raping children on home soil arrested in Bourne

Brazilian fugitive wanted for raping a 13-year-old boy in his own country arrested Bourne by last month US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston.

ERO officers arrested 36-year-old Andre Tiago Lucas on Oct. 31, according to a press release issued Nov. 8. Lucas will remain in custody until immigration proceedings are completed.

Lucas was found guilty of raping a defenseless person by the Single Court of the Serro Region of Minas Gerais, Brazil, on December 6, 2016, and was sentenced to nine years and four months in prison. He later escaped and eventually ended up in Massachusetts.

“This Brazilian fugitive was convicted of a heinous crime in his own country. Rather than face the consequences of his actions, he chose to flee, believing he could evade justice in Massachusetts,” Acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde of ERO Boston said in a statement.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested a Brazilian immigrant who fled his homeland after being convicted of raping children. The arrest, announced on November 8, took place in Bourne on October 31.
