A man and woman died Tuesday morning in Bethel after a house exploded, sending debris through the neighborhood, fire officials said.

Bethel Tate Fire Chief Christopher Cooper said his crew responded to the structure fire on Vic Joy Drive just before 9 a.m.

In addition to the deaths, a man was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment after being burned, Cooper said.

The names of the dead were not disclosed.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Cooper said. The Ohio State Fire Marshal is leading this effort along with the Clermont County fire investigation team and the sheriff’s office.

Cooper said there were many animals in and around the house, especially cats. He also said that propane gas had leaked into the single-storey house.

It’s not yet clear how long the investigation will take, Cooper said.
