Former Xavier High School principal’s job offer was rescinded after complaint

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) – Former Xavier High School principal Mike Mauthe has had his job offer rescinded after receiving a complaint against him from the Diocese of Green Bay.

The Diocese of Green Bay told Action 2 News on Wednesday that St. John’s Church in Neenah. He confirmed that St. Mary’s Catholic Church’s offer to Mauthe had been cancelled.

No other information was released by the diocese.

The letter states that the Diocese of Green Bay received a complaint against Mauthe, directing them to launch an investigation.

It is stated that “no further details can be given” since this complaint is related to personnel matters.

Action 2 News reached the Diocese of Green Bay. They released a statement quoting in part: “The diocese, working with Xavier High School leadership, has turned this matter over to local authorities for further investigation. Because this is an ongoing investigation, no further information will be released. The diocese and school officials are fully cooperating with local law enforcement.”

Action 2 News also reached out to the Appleton Police Department but did not hear back.

According to his biography on the Xavier Catholic Schools websiteMauthe grew up in Menasha and began her career at Xavier in 1996. In 2012, he left his teaching job at Xavier to become principal of Lourdes Academy Middle and High School in Oshkosh. He returned to Xavier as principal in 2014.

I regret to inform you that a complaint was received by the Diocese of Green Bay’s Safe Environment Office, which subsequently initiated an investigation. As a result, Mr. Mike Mauthe is now in St. Doesn’t work at St. Francis Xavier High School. As this is a personal matter, no further details can be provided.

The safety of our children is our number one priority. We understand that this news may be distressing and we, along with our students and staff, are committed to supporting you. Three Catholic Charities mental health counselors will be based at Xavier High School and will be available to staff and students on Friday, November 15.
