Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed for renovations

Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed for renovations

The work is part of a two-year project to protect the Grade I-listed bridge’s historic wrought iron chains from corrosion.

A protective paint is used to protect them, and there are also plans to update the lighting system that illuminates the bridge.

According to the Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust, most of the bridge’s chain links are 180 years old.

During the closure, cyclists can dismount their bikes and cross the road, but the trust is asking them to avoid the bridge if possible, as only one narrow pedestrian path will be open.
