Lakemill Lodge faces loss of business license after joint city inspection

Following a joint review by multiple city agencies on Oct. 30, Lakemill Lodge on Mill Street faces the possibility of having its business license revoked or suspended.

An investigation by the City of Reno Code Enforcement Department, Northern Nevada Public Health, Reno Police Department, Reno Fire Department and City Building Compliance Division revealed conditions requiring further action. Based on the findings and subsequent recommendations, the Department of Business Licensing initiated a Show Cause Hearing to determine the fate of the business license.

Authorities said they found food, clothing and drug paraphernalia scattered on the stairs during the investigation. Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) has deemed stairwells a public health hazard due to the risk of drug contamination. As a result, the stairs were temporarily taken out of use.

Property owners are required to implement security measures, including 24-hour security personnel and the addition of security fencing around the property, before reinstatement can be considered. The suspension of the lodge’s operating license is scheduled to end in July 2025, the city said. However, the City may lift the suspension sooner if property owners meet all required conditions.
