Man from Izmir arrested on charges of assault

SMYRNA, Del. – Smyrna Police arrested a man for allegedly attacking a jogger earlier this week.

At around 10.30pm on Wednesday, police said they were called to a reported assault in the city centre. Police spoke with the 26-year-old female victim, who reported that a male suspect grabbed her by the hair and stabbed her in the back while she was jogging in the area of ​​S. Main Street and Commerce Street. The victim managed to fight off the man and escape with minor injuries.

Thanks to downtown surveillance and public tips, police were able to identify the suspect as 34-year-old Francis Riddle. Riddle was arrested in the 600 block of Lexington Avenue and charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the course of a felony, second-degree assault, aggravated menacing and first-degree unlawful imprisonment. He was held on $78,000 cash bail.

Police announced that the cause of the incident was unknown.
