A senior police officer from the Special Cell said that the third accused, Raghav, who stabbed Pal with a knife, was hiding in Sangam Vihar.

Acting on specific information, teams of South East Zone Special Cell and Narcotics Cell NDR went to the area connecting Sangam Vihar and Surajkund Road late on Saturday night, the official said.

The suspect was identified and asked to surrender. However, he opened fire on the police personnel who responded in self-defense, wounding the defendant.

“He was immediately taken to ESIC Hospital in Okhla where he died,” the officer said.

The police officer stated that a gun with two cartridges was seized, adding that no police officer was injured in the conflict.

Constable Kiran Pal, posted at Govindpuri Police Station, was on night patrol duty when he stopped three people riding scooters in the early hours of Saturday.

The officer said that the defendant threw stones at the police officer to avoid arrest, but managed to block the police officer’s path by placing his bike in front of their vehicle.

The officer also took the scooty’s keys and began questioning the trio, during which the accused stabbed himself, the officer added. PTI
