Delhi Police officer stops men on patrol, stabbed to death; Key accused killed in encounter – Delhi News

A day after a Delhi Police constable was stabbed to death, the key accused was shot dead during an encounter with police in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area, officials said on Sunday.

Police constable Kiran Pal, 28, was stabbed to death by three men during night patrol in Govindpuri area on Friday. Multiple teams were formed by the police and a massive manhunt was launched.

While two of the attackers – Deepak Max (20) and Krish Gupta (18) – were arrested on Saturday, the third, Raghav, was still at large.

Police tracked Raghav to a hideout in Sangam Vihar and special police teams reached the spot late on Saturday night. According to the authorities, the defendant was asked to surrender, but he opened fire on the police personnel, who responded in self-defense and injured himself.

He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital and died there. Police suspect that the suspects are drug addicts and involved in petty crimes.

POLICE STOPPED THE TRIO AND STABBED THEM

Late Friday night, three men riding scooters in the area where they allegedly planned to rob a home or individuals were stopped by Officer Kiran Pal.

Pal, who was patrolling on his motorcycle, noticed the trio around 5.30 in the morning. The suspects they encountered threw stones at Pal in order to escape. Undeterred, Pal blocked his motorcycle with his bike and took out the key.

According to police, at that moment one of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed Pal.

Officers from a nearby cabin quickly took Pal to Majidia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He had suffered fatal stab wounds to his chest and abdomen.

Pal is originally from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh.

He joined Delhi Police as a constable in 2018 and was initially posted at Kishan Garh Police Station. He was transferred to Govindpuri Police Station in March this year.
