Chandigarh University Signs MoU with Washington Adventist University, USA for Academic Exchange and Collaboration in Fields of Interest

Washington (USA)/ Chandigarh (India), November 25: Celebrating 10 successful years of the Indo-US Strategic Partnership for a Just World, the Global Equity Alliance Summit hosted by Washington Adventist University at the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church on Carroll Ave, Maryland was carried out. Aiming to advance the empowerment of minorities, primarily by encouraging dialogue on minority welfare and education, renowned academics, business and thought leaders and policymakers held extended discussions on various aspects of the decade-long impact of minority reforms under Prime Minister Modi in India. Washington Adventist University Pastor Dr. A special prayer led by Jiwan Stefan Moon was also held at the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church for global peace and harmony.

During the summit, Washington Adventist University and the American Indian Minorities Association welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Honored with the Global Peace Prize for the Upliftment of Minorities. The award was presented to Prime Minister Modi for his work for the welfare of minorities and peace efforts in the last 10 years. During the Modi government, the abrogation of Article 370 paved the way for lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir and terrorism-related activities have hit rock bottom. Prime Minister Modi was instrumental in peacekeeping efforts during the Russia-Ukraine war. Prime Minister Modi also ensured the safety of Hindus during the conflict in Bangladesh and took measures to end the humanitarian crisis on the Myanmar border.

The event was attended by members of Congress, senior officials of the US administration, well-known academicians, researchers, industry leaders and local government officials. Prominent among those present at the event included David j Byrd, Former National Director, US Department of Commerce, Minority Business Development Agency, White House Correspondent Dr Sukhpal Singh Dhanoa, Member of Parliament Satnam Singh Sandhu, Rajya Sabha (India) and Convener. Federation of Minorities of India, David Pillai, President, Transworld Educare Pvt Ltd, Professor Ken Cherian, Dr John Daniel, Senior Pastor, South Asian Seventh-day Adventist Church, Dr Washington Adventist University Rector. Cheryl Harris Kisunzu, US Administration officials and leaders from different segments of the Indian Minority diaspora in the United States.

A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between Chandigarh University in India and Washington Adventist University in the USA to establish exchange and cooperation programs in areas of interest for the mutual benefit of both institutions. This collaboration will explore opportunities such as short- or long-term mobility for students, such as summer schools, semesters abroad, articulation and exchange, progression of students to Masters or PhD programmes, identify opportunities for faculty, research staff and administrative staff exchange, and provide faculty and students with joint learn about each other’s institutions’ academic programmes, research institutes and educational resources for workshops, conferences and joint publication and cultural exchange, and identify other possible areas of interest and cooperation.

During the summit, a research paper highlighting ‘Transformation of Minorities in India in the Last Decade’ was presented by Dr Cheryl Harris Kisunzu, Chancellor of Washington Adventist University, and was attended by officials, faculty members and students from the university.

Two high-level panel discussions were then held on ‘Bridging Communities through Leadership Inclusion Policies and Governance’ and ‘Transforming lives through Education that empowers minority communities’, touching on complex issues related to minority welfare, leadership, education and inclusive governance. Washington Adventist University (WAU) is a landmark in minority education with its longstanding commitment to inclusion, interfaith dialogue, and the educational empowerment of minorities.

Praising the strong friendship shared between President-Elect Donald Trump and Prime Minister Modi, senior US Administration officials and members of the Indian diaspora said that Indo-US bilateral relations under Trump and Prime Minister Modi not only serve the common interests of both but are poised to soar to higher levels. It will usher in an era of global peace, progress and prosperity not only for nations but also for all.
