New Haven police increase patrols amid ongoing investigation into deadly shooting

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) – In response to a recent increase in violence, the New Haven Police Department is increasing patrols citywide to combat rising crime.

This initiative will come after a while Fatal shooting that killed a 16-year-old in broad daylight.

Authorities are actively searching for the suspect responsible for the fatal shooting and are asking for the public’s help.

A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon when police responded to a ShotSpotter report of gunshots heard at the intersection of Hudson and Goffe Streets.

Police arriving at the scene encountered a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound.

The man was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital and was later pronounced dead.

During the conflict, a school bus full of students was hit by a stray bullet while passing through the area.

No one on the bus was injured, but the close call raised concerns about public safety.

Authorities have not yet identified the victim, but they believe the attack was targeted.

This marks the tenth homicide in New Haven so far this year, prompting local officials to take additional precautions against the ongoing violence.

Mayor Justin Elicker highlighted the city’s efforts to improve public safety, noting the implementation of new security cameras throughout New Haven.

“We have a lot of new cameras that are helping us solve a lot of shootings and homicides across the city,” Elicker said. “We will continue to do our best to ensure the safety of the community.”

The One in Five Foundation has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved in the shooting.

While the investigation continues, police are appealing for anyone with information about the crime to come forward.
