At least 17 people were killed and 29 people were rescued after a bus crashed in Brazil’s northeastern Alagoas state on Sunday, the state’s health secretariat said.

In the statement made by the secretariat, it was stated that one person was taken to Mata Regional Hospital but died due to his injuries, while the others died at the scene.

While the details of the accident were not disclosed, local media reported that the bus fell into a cliff in the region.

Alagoas Governor Paulo Dantas declared three days of mourning for those who lost their lives.

“I have ordered the state’s full mobilization, with fire crews and the entire medical structure working to assist,” the governor said in a statement. he said.
