Moscow will announce Russia’s new ambassador to the USA after the relevant decree is signed — Kremlin – Russian Politics & Diplomacy

MOSCOW, 25 November. /TASS/. Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that the Kremlin will announce the appointment of Russia’s new ambassador to the United States in a timely manner and as soon as the relevant decree is signed.

“We will inform you immediately as soon as the decree on the appointment of Russia’s new ambassador to the United States is signed,” Peskov told reporters. “As you all know very well, we do not make advance announcements about new appointments.”

Russian Kommersant newspaper reported last week, based on three unnamed sources, that Alexander Darchiyev, Director of the North American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, was appointed to this position.

However, the Russian Foreign Ministry later said it would refrain from commenting publicly on the possible candidacy of the country’s new US ambassador, citing legal restrictions.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed Anatoly Antonov from his post as Russia’s Ambassador to the USA. On October 5, the US Embassy told TASS that Antonov had completed his assignment in Washington and the diplomat returned to Moscow the next day.

On November 20, Peskov told reporters that the Kremlin had already decided on the candidacy of Russia’s new ambassador to the United States and that this appointment could be expected in the near future.
