Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Mahmudul Hasan has warned of strict action against dishonest groups involved in irregularities in the birth registration process.

Speaking at the second meeting of the committee formed by the Local Government Department to oversee the activities of the municipality, Mahmudul Hasan emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth birth registration process.

“For the process to be smooth and effective, all concerned must act responsibly. Strict action will be taken against corrupt individuals involved in irregularities related to the issuance of birth registration or other certificates. DNCC judges will set up mobile courts to resolve these issues,” he said.

Addressing public health concerns, he said, “Although it is November, dengue cases are still affecting many people. Regular mosquito control activities should continue and inspections need to be intensified.”

He added that citizens should also be made aware of the importance of keeping their homes and surroundings clean.

To ensure effective management, the Local Government Department of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives has constituted a 25-member committee.

The committee, chaired by the DNCC executive and the executive chairman serving as member-secretary, includes officials from various institutions and departments.

The committee established under the Local Government (city corporations amendment) Regulations 2024 will assist the manager in carrying out his duties. Members will also take on responsibilities previously managed by councilors under Section 25A of the regulations.
