Johor police arrest eight people for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs

JOHOR BARU: Eight people were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during roadblocks at Jalan Daya and Jalam Mutiara Emas Utama.

Johor Baru South OKDB Deputy Commissioner Raub Selamat said that the operation was carried out as part of “Ops Mabuk” between 1am and 5am on Tuesday, November 26.

“Six people were arrested under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol and having recorded alcohol levels exceeding legal limits.

“All the suspects have been released on police bail and will be summoned to the Johor Baru Magistrate Court on the appointed date.

“Two people were detained under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for careless driving against the flow of traffic and for testing positive for drugs,” he said. a statement.

It was stated that both suspects were kept in custody for further proceedings.

ACP Raub also said that the operation aims to combat traffic crimes, especially drink driving, and improve road safety.

“During the operation, a total of 116 people, 98 men and 18 women, of various ethnic origins, aged between 18-65, were examined.

“In addition, 97 vehicles were checked, including 74 cars, 15 motorcycles and 8 other types of vehicles.

“A total of 40 summonses were issued for 67 offences, including driving without a licence, running a red light, non-compliant license plates, modified exhaust systems and not wearing a seat belt,” he said.

Drinking and driving, driving recklessly against traffic or driving under the influence of drugs not only violates the law, but also endangers the lives of both the driver and other road users.

“We urge all road users to comply with traffic rules to ensure public road safety,” he added.
