The rapist who told his daughter he wanted to marry and attacked children while they were sleeping was sentenced to prison

The rapist, who said he wanted to marry the child, was arrested.

Alan Todd sexually abused three young children at various addresses in Edinburgh between 2001 and 2019.

The 54-year-old man was found guilty of five charges involving children aged between 7 and 13 following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh in October.

It turned out that the cleaner targeted the first two children while they were sleeping in their beds.

He also wrote inappropriate letters and a card to one of the victims, confessing his love for her and stating that he wanted to marry her.

Todd then attacked the same boy by grabbing him by the throat.

He also sexually assaulted and raped the third victim, who was under the age of 13, repeatedly over three years.

Todd was arrested and charged in May 2020.

On Wednesday, the High Court in Edinburgh gave him a 13-year extended prison sentence, including 10 years in custody.

His name was added to the sex offender registry indefinitely.

Non-harassment orders banning Todd from contacting or attempting to contact the victims were made for 15 years.

Katrina Parkes, Scotland’s Supreme Court Sexual Offenses treasurer, said: “Alan Todd posed a danger to young children by exploiting his position of trust in the worst possible way.

“The trauma these victims experienced was at the forefront of our minds during this prosecution.

“Thanks to the courage of those affected by Todd’s crime, he has now been brought to justice.

“No matter how much time has passed, we encourage anyone affected by similar crimes to come forward.

“You will be listened to and supported as we seek to achieve justice using all the tools at our disposal.”

Detective constable Jill Urquhart, of Police Scotland, added: “Alan Todd is an abusive individual whose crimes spanned many years.

“I admire the strength and resilience of the victims in this case and hope that his conviction provides them with some sense of closure.

“I urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual crime to come forward and report it to us, regardless of when it occurred. All reports are meticulously investigated.

“We have specially trained officers to support you, as well as our partner agencies.”
