Johnson Reec Mading, a 28-year-old visually impaired student who is preparing to take the Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) exams held nationwide between 2-11 December, was happy to receive the financial assistance he needed for his exam journey. .

The transfer of US$150 provided by civil society group Community Empowerment Organization for Progress (CEPO) took place on Thursday at Bor Secondary School in Bor, the capital of Jonglei State. This generous support came a few days later Reec’s heartfelt call for help was broadcast on Radio Tamazuj.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj this afternoon, Reec expressed his gratitude, stating that the cash support was a great relief. “I am grateful for this compassionate assistance. “It is no longer difficult to finance my exams and cover travel expenses during this exam period,” he said.

Bor Secondary School principal Pech Manyok Pech praised Reec for his determination and academic excellence. “I taught Reec for the first time in his first year and he is a great student. As a school, we fully support the aid provided to him. Pech stated that this $150 will help him during the 10-day exams because he will need an assistant to accompany him throughout the exam.

David Majok Jool, state coordinator of CEPO, emphasized the importance of inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in society. He emphasized that this intervention shows that people with disabilities are not neglected and called on all aid organizations to defend and support people with disabilities.

CEPO’s project officer, Lokuto Bismark, praised Reec for overcoming numerous challenges while continuing his education and reiterated CEPO’s commitment to supporting people with disabilities.

“This is the first time CEPO has provided this type of support at the secondary level. We are also supporting four students at the University of Juba. As CEPO, we defend the rights of disabled people. “Our efforts contributed to the signing of the United Nations Convention on the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the development of a national action plan for the CRPD, and the passage of the disability rights bill into law,” he said.
