Harwich woman accused of fatally stabbing sheep – Boston News, Weather, Sports

HARWICH, MASS. (WHDH) – A woman is accused of fatally stabbing three sheep in Harwich Tuesday morning, according to the Harwich Police Department.

Police said officers responded to 35 Chatham Road for a report of neglected sheep and several dead animals on the property.

Police spoke with one of the home’s residents, Meredith Virpino, who said she allegedly killed the sheep by stabbing them in the throat, according to the police department.

Police said officers went to a barn on the property and found two dead sheep with stab wounds to their throats. A third sheep was also found alive with a stab wound to the throat, but was later euthanized by a veterinarian due to its condition, authorities said.

“Conditions in the warehouse were deplorable and food and water were in short supply,” the Harwich Police Department said in a statement.

Officers also found 12 more dead animals in the barn, he said.

Virpino was arrested Tuesday and later released on $500 bail, according to police. He was arraigned Wednesday morning in Orleans Parish Court on 15 animal cruelty charges.
