Calgary police are searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman downtown earlier this month.

Police say the woman was walking in the area of ​​Sixth Avenue and 10 Street SW around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, when she was approached by a man who threatened her with a gun.

The victim tried to escape by entering the front door of a nearby apartment building, but police said the man followed him.

“When he entered the entrance, he once again threatened her with a knife and then sexually assaulted her,” police said in a news release issued Wednesday. he said.

Then the man ran away.

Calgary Transit officers located the victim and called police.

Investigators identified the man believed to be responsible and obtained an arrest warrant for him.

Karmal Ismail, 33, from Calgary, is described as 180 centimeters tall and weighing 70 kilograms, of medium build, black hair and brown eyes.

He is wanted on an arrest warrant for sexual assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.
