Urgent manhunt for 58-year-old convicted rapist ‘actively evading’ police after public warning ‘do not approach’ – The Irish Sun

An URGENT manhunt has been launched to find a convicted rapist who is “actively evading officers”.

South Yorkshire Police warned members of the public to “do not approach” David Doherty, 58, and to call 999.

Cops are on the hunt for Doherty, who twice violated Sex Offender Notification Requirements.

He is also wanted due to a report that he made threats to kill.

The offender was convicted of rape in 2014, and of attempted rape and indecent assault in 2000.

As a result, he was placed on the sex offenders register for life.

But he failed to register his address, something that is regularly required.

Police said Doherty “knew he was wanted and believed he was actively running from officers.”

The convicted rapist is described as being approximately 1.80 meters tall with short, greyish-light brown hair.

Cops believe Doherty is in the Scawthorpe or Balby areas of Doncaster.

There are also links to Grimsby.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Doherty, 58, of Doncaster, is wanted in connection with two breaches of the Sex Offender Notification Requirements and a report of him making threats to kill.

“In 2000, Doherty was found guilty of attempted rape and indecent assault, and of rape in 2014. After his release from prison, he was placed on the sex offenders register for life.

“As part of his registration conditions Doherty is required to register his address with the police on a regular basis.

“He recently failed to register his address properly.

“We would like to hear from anyone who has seen Doherty recently, spoken to him or knows where he may be staying. “We know he is wanted and believe he is actively running from officers.

“He is described as a white man of slim build, 6ft tall, with short light brown hair that is starting to grey.

“Officers believe Doherty is in the Scawthorpe or Balby areas of Doncaster, but he also has links to Grimsby.

“If you see Doherty please do not approach him but call 999 instead.
