Woman in her 50s fights for her life after horrific three-way crash involving driver in his 70s

A woman in her 50s is fighting for her life in hospital after a horrific three-way crash.

A black Ford Fiesta, a white Seat Ibiza and a black Land Rover were involved in the accident.

Emergency services rushed to the scene near Tilly Whim Lane on the A35 between Dorchester and Winterbourne Abbas at 1.49pm on Sunday.

A passenger in the seat, aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital with ‘life-threatening’ injuries. Dorset Police said his family had been notified.

The driver of the Land Rover, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital for treatment but his injuries are not believed to be serious.

The other 3 people were treated at the scene by medical teams, but did not require hospital treatment.

While the roads were closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, the road was reopened at around 18.25.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or may have relevant camera footage.

Sergeant Mike Burt, of the Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: ‘We are carrying out an investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision.

‘I am appealing for any witnesses to the incident or the manner in which the vehicles involved were used prior to the incident, if you have not already spoken to the police, to please contact us.

‘I would also ask any motorists with dashcams traveling in the area to check their footage to see if they have captured anything relevant.

‘Finally, I would like to thank citizens for their patience and understanding as I fully appreciate this incident which has resulted in the closure of a major route.

‘The closure was absolutely necessary to enable emergency services to attend and investigate the scene of the collision.’
