New England Patriots’ Drake Maye Earns High Praise from NFL Coach

New England Patriots Point guard Drake Maye certainly turned heads during his rookie season, even though he didn’t start the season under center.

There’s no doubt that the Patriots’ offense has looked a lot better since Maye replaced Jacoby Brissett in mid-October and an AFC defensive assistant offered a fairly complimentary evaluation of the first-year signal-caller.

“He’s got a live arm, man.” the assistant saidvia Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston. “He can really make every shot. That’s something we kept telling our guys. There’s not that guy out there that’s going to scare you, but (Maye) is willing to give those guys a chance.”

Maye definitely did some Stunning games this season and that definitely rejuvenated a New England team that looked lackluster earlier in the year.

The 22-year-old has certainly had his share of ups and downs, but that’s to be expected from a rookie point guard.

Over seven games and six starts, Maye threw for 1,458 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 65.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 85.4. He also rushed for 286 yards and averaged a strong 8.7 yards per carry.

There were serious questions about the University of North Carolina product when the Pats selected him with the third overall pick in the NFL Draft last April, but he has certainly exceeded expectations so far, especially considering the state of the pieces around him.

Patriots definitely need to add another wide receiver (or two or three) in the offseason and they also need to address the terrible offensive line.

If New England can provide Maye with enough supporting talent going forward, we could see a new dawn in Foxborough.
